FAQs

Licensing and Support Maintenance

1. How is licensing figured, since company size of Agware users varies? Our licensing is based on the number of concurrent users. We quote for each operation based on the total number of concurrent users. (If you have 50 employees, but only 25 will use Agware at any given time; you would be licensed for 25 users.)

2. What is the basis of software license renewal? The License Maintenance fee is included with the concurrent user fee, which also includes all updates and upgrades at no additional cost.

3. Are there different levels of maintenance and support? There is one level of support. Call, fax, or e-mail your questions 24/7.

Hardware/Software Questions

1. Is it necessary to operate Agware in a Microsoft® Windows® environment? Yes.

2. Is a particular Internet browser recommended? Yes. The use of I.E. 4.0, or higher, for your browser is requisite for use of Agware along with features designed for Internet connectivity. (You don't have to have Internet access if you do not want to use the automatic functions that are Internet related.)

3. In what programming language is your software written? Microsoft® VB.NET

4. What database engine does Agware utilize? Currently our software utilizes the Microsoft® SQL Server 2000® database engine, which interfaces with MS office.

5. Can Agware handle bar-code printing? Yes, our software prints barcodes on paper tags using laser printers. We are a software development partner with Symbol Technologies, the leader in scanning equipment. We also integrate RFID technology with Agware. We are partners with Matrics, and Alien for RFID hardware.

6. Is Agware RFID technology EPC compliant? Although EPC standards are still evolving, our rfid> Genesis system is mandate compliant with ability to maintain compliance as standards continue to be developed. Our developers have been working with RFID technology for more than 10 years and our professional partnerships are geared toward leadership in the industry. For more information about how RFID can benefit Agware users, please visit our RFID Technology page.

7. How feasible is a transition from Agware in a LAN environment to Agware deployment as a Web application? By design, Agware's three-tiered structure separates the user interface, business transactions, and data services in a way that easily lends itself to deployment on a LAN or a WAN.

8. Who is responsible for safekeeping of client data?  Each client is responsible for making and safe-guarding his own data backups. Franwell, Inc. does not back up client data nor do we offer data storage services. While we provide a new database if needed, the new database would be empty, as the client is responsible for putting in the necessary data. We recommend that clients make regular backups and store them off site.

Accounting Questions, Financial Transactions and other Back Office Functions

1. How are billing cycles, or periods, established in Agware? The user defines his regular cycles. There are no preset periods. (Please read our General Ledger document, in the Agware Back Office Products section of our Web site, for more details.) You can choose whether to lock transactions or not.

2. Do you have hard closes for each month, or can you make billing/receiving changes after a month ends? Yes, you can make modifications after an invoice has been processed. There is no hard close for months or periods, but there is an annual hard close. "Soft closes" are possible throughout the fiscal year, however, at any given point(s) in time you can select a system-wide through date for locked transactions. (Since reports may be printed at any time, closes do not affect report functions.) Also, our software allows the sales console to tell the back office when to invoice. As for rebilling, this can be done at any time after delivery and before you close out the year.

3. Are your aging report ranges fixed or user-defined? Our A/P and A/R aging range is user-defined.

4. How does Agware handle the unknown factors of grower accounting? Our Software allows for accurate and detailed accounting covering all aspects of a charge to growers and for the product that is sold for them. Each company chooses its own cost estimation method. System generated estimations are then automatically recalculated at the time a cost is associated with a product. All grower accounting will automatically follow invoice changes. (Please read our Grower Accounting document in the Products section of our Web site for more details.)

5. How does Agware keep up with changes from invoices to vouchers, orders to shipments, etc.? Our software keeps track of each document by number, header name, and date, and the document status is changed according to the process through which it is moving. (For example, an order moves from a Status of Open, Ready to Load, Shipped, Ready to Invoice, Invoiced to Closed when full payment is received. Some status changes result from automatic functions and others are the result of manual validation by the user.)

6. Is cost accounting included in your financial (Back Office) module? Cost accounting is a function of the financial component. System generated estimates that are replaced with known costs eliminate overstating or understating profits.

7. How are transactions sorted and located? You can retrieve transactions by account, date, location, card ID, SKU number and reference number. Additionally, some lookup points offer grouping and sorting options when making selections.

Agware Logistics Questions

1. Does Agware software support multiple companies? Yes. Our software supports multiple companies as separate databases or as related businesses on one database. How you choose to set up your companies determines whether you need more than one database.

2. Does Agware support multiple locations with a single database? Yes, you can keep track of inventory at several different warehouses and monitor all transactions from one office. And multiple company locations are supported within the framework of a single database. Every transaction is coded with a location that you set in the Card File which can also be set for different ranches, fields, or whatever you want to use.

General Agware Questions

1. Are all the reports in Agware pre-formatted or can they be modified to user-defined specifications? You are not limited to Agware formatted reports, you can export your data to Microsoft® Excel and Access, as well as Word (if Word has a SQL Table link, as the most recent versions do). In addition to this, analysis type reports generate data from user-defined parameters.

2. Is it possible for an associated grower to have access to part of your Agware system, yet not have access the entire data base? Yes. Actually, you could plan for any individual or business entity to have access to as little or much of your database as you desire; however, this would affect your licensing depending upon how the grower (or any other associate) accesses and uses your system. Specifically, you could isolate a grower's data so that access to your entire database is not given. (Please read about User Security in the System Manager section of our Agware product documents for more information.)

3. Is it possible to talk to or visit a current Agware client? Yes. We can provide client contact information for those who wish to speak to Agware users or view Agware in operation. Our Valued Clients page with a listing of clients that have their own Web sites is also available.
